Lou and Sophie, true best friends forever, have just finished high school. On the threshold of adulthood, they yearn for freedom and adventure. All summer in their run-down neighbourhood? No way! Instead they're in search of an old car to buy, ready to head off on a road trip.
The day after the ball, Lou and Sophie have found the perfect way to make the most of their gap year: buying an old car. After agreeing to hide their purchase from their parents, the drive to the beach where they meet Jules and Arnaud.
Lou tries to persuade her mother that they need to keep the car, but the latter sees things very differently. After a more-or-less successful date with a boy, Sophie calls to collect Lou before catching up with Jules and Arnaud in an abandoned school.
