Groenland, la terre de glace
Filter by subtitle language
Greenland, land of ice
It's the largest island in the northern hemisphere, 85% covered by ice, roughly four times the size of France but with a population of only 56,000. If Greenland, a constituent part of the Kingdom of Denmark, is not a member of the European Union, it continues to maintain close links with Europe, which has recently opened a permanent representation. Today an autonomous territory of Denmark, the country had colonial status for a long time. In the 1960s, to lower the birth rate amongst the indigenous Inuit population, Denmark launched a policy of female sterilisation, without the women's consent. A scandal long kept under wraps and only revealed in 2022. It is the subject of our documentary.
