Montmartre, in a time of virus

This is the story of a community in shock, of men and women as they confront the invisible threat of a devastating virus, Covid-19. In the 18th arrondissement of Paris, from Montmartre to the Goutte d'Or, a veritable planet all to itself with its multitude of different cultures, a form of resistance begins to be organised. Between 17 March and 11 May 2020, night and day, locals and workers confront a totally new situation, a first-ever lockdown. Overcoming their fears and anxieties, most without either mask or hydroalcoholic gel, they are driven by their convictions: to bring life and hope, rather than death and resignation, as they fulfil their obligations. Emmanuelle the chief superintendent, P'tit Loup the pharmacist, Éric the mayor, Murielle the nurse, Sylvie the baker, Father Olivier, Marie-Rose the bookseller, Nourdine the refuse collector, Rachid from the non-profit La Table Ouverte, Michel from Solidarité St-Bernard... All were present during the fifty-five days of silence, deserted streets, confiscated lives, halted activities, brotherhood on the balconies, ranting, solidarity...
It was a year ago. A snapshot of an era. Personal stories still current today yet which recreate a narrative that is already being buried.

A report by Françoise Joly, Pascale Bourgaux, Dominique Lecomte, Clément Alline, Antoine Imbert.
