Charlotte and Maximilian, the dark heroes of Mexico
Emperor Maximilian and his wife Charlotte, two sovereigns from Austria and Belgium, placed on a throne made-to-measure for them on the other side of the Atlantic, in Mexico. Despite their best intentions they were rapidly overtaken by events as they became players in a drama that was about to unfold.
