Les châteaux de France

Historians, craftsmen, wardens and artists are our guides as we discover their favourite French castles. A journey which includes Chantilly, Compiègne, Fontainebleau, Lourmarin, Pierrefonds and Tarascon.

Tarascon, a castle of paradoxes

Built in the early 15th century, Tarascon bears witness to the determination of the Dukes of Anjou, counts of Provence, to maintain their grip on northern and southern Italy. The castle delights those interested in military, maritime and prison-related heritage. Never destroyed, it retains all of its original architectural features.
