Tashkent, in search of Soviet heritage (Uzbekistan)

Capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent is a city with over 2,200 years of history. In 1865, it was absorbed by the Russian empire. During the Second World War, it became both "Russified" and industrialised. Destroyed earthquake in 1966, the USSR saw Tashkent as a symbol of its ability to rebuild.
