The lifeless body of a sixty year-old woman is found on Porquerolles' Alycastre beach. It's rapidly identified as Élisabeth Carlson, an artist much-admired on the island. The locally-born deputy public prosecutor, Arnaud Taillard, heads the investigation with Charlie Landowski, a somewhat whimsical detective inspector who's just been transferred from Seine-Saint-Denis.
