Thirteen French directors have received the Palme d'Or (or Grand Prix of the Festival, as it is also called) since 1946, including Jacques Audiard, Claude Lellouch and Maurice Pialat. Nine British directors have also received the coveted award with Ken Loach receiving it twice (in 2006 and 2016)
