The 7th edition of the French culinary week in Israel SO FRENCH SO FOOD, under the patronage of the région Sud of France, will take place from 9th - 13th February in the cities of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, Nazareth and Tiberias. The event is organised by the French Embassy in Israel, the French Institute of Israel and Business France.
17 French chefs, including a pastry chef and a baker chef, will come compete this year with Guillaume Gomez, chef of the Elysée Palace and President of the Association of the Cooks of the French Republic. Most of the chefs who are coming to Israel this year are from the South of France. They will be hosted in Tel Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem, Nazareth and Tiberias, by Israeli chefs from 11 restaurants and a pâtisserie shop. Together, on February 10th, 11th and 12th, they will prepare some exceptional gastronomic menus that will enable Israeli gourmets to discover or rediscover French cuisine, and in particular the tastes and flavors of the South Region (Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur). Every week, the French culinary week highlights individuals, institutions and associations that perform outstanding work on the field. For this 2019 edition, SO FRENCH SO FOOD will visit the Neve Tirza prison, the only women's prison in Israel. The chef Guillaume Gomez, and the chef Dan Aboulkheir, chef of the French Ambassador’s Residence in Israel, will offer to the women of the prison and their children, a culinary workshop, in the presence of the wife of the President of the State of Israel, Nechama Rivlin, and the French ambassador to Israel, Hélène Le Gal.
On Wednesday 13th February from 3:30 pm to 7:00 pm, French chef Lionel Levy and master pastry chef Jean-Michel Llorca will be welcomed by Shimon Maman of the Sheraton Tel Aviv Hotel to give two successive master classes on the preparation of typical Provençal dishes. This afternoon is an opportunity for our chefs to present a recipe of their choice and to reveal some of their tips and secrets. Don’t miss it: each presentation will be followed by a tasting! SO FRENCH SO FOOD is also pleased to welcome the prestigious Institute of culinary arts and hotel management in Paris, Le Cordon Bleu. Chef Christian Moine, gold medallist of the Cuisiniers de France and of the Académie Culinaire de France, will be received by Chef Meir Danon at his school Danon Culinary Center in Tel Aviv to offer the students some professional master classes. SO FRENCH SO FOOD organises many events open to the general public to enable them to discover French gastronomy:
On Sunday, 10th February at 7:30 pm, at the Givon Art Forum, the French Institute of Israel, the Givon Art Forum and the Oasis restaurant is organising a philosophical banquet on the theme "When philosophy meets art and gastronomy": a conference in English by the French philosopher Joseph Cohen and a conversation with the chef of the Oasis restaurant, Rima Olvera. Participants will enjoy from 8.30pm a cocktail dinner specially prepared by the chef. Information and booking details online.
On Monday, 11th February at 6:30pm at the French Institute of Tel Aviv, there will be offered a Workshop by the Campus France service department of the French Institute on the theme: "Come learn hotel management and food service in France!". On Tuesday, 12th February from 7 pm to 9 pm, the French Institute is organising a conference in Hebrew on "The sweet secrets of the South of France - anecdotes about candies and sweet specialties of Provence and Côte d'Azur."
