This Sunday 24th June TV5MONDE celebrates Québec National Day via a selection of programmes 100% Québecoise!
The origins and customs of Québec National Day:
The origins of this celebration go back to ancestral times, when people celebrated the summer solstice. A big bonfire was lit to symbolize the daylight that was at its peak. It was not until 1977 that this festival became the National Day of Quebec by celebrating all the different communities that formed the Quebec society.
And since then, on the morning of June 24th, a sound of bells ringing invites the people of Quebec to participate in the numerous activities and events organised for the occasion and then to gather around a generous meal in community where each guest contributes to the menu with Quebecois meals and drinks.
A selection of programmes coming direct from Québec! (All times are in Paris time)
