Since 1982, the 21st of June is synonymous with Fête de la Musique! A popular and free event, it is open to all amateur or professional participants and invades the streets and squares of the towns and villages of France, mixing up all musical genres over one night. It has since crossed borders and can now be celebrated around the world. It is sometimes also known as World Music Day, although the French name is also often used in some English-speaking countries.

The idea behind the Fête de la Musique
Created by Jack Lang, Minister of Culture, based on an idea by its Director of Music and Dance, Maurice Fleuret, who noted that out of five million people, one in two young people play a musical instrument in France. The Fête de la Musique launched on 21 June 1982, the day of the summer solstice, where the night is the shortest, and thus conducive to a party until morning...

"Make Music, Festival of Music"
The involvement and enthusiasm of professional and/or amateur musicians, new focus paid to all musical genres, free concerts and growing awareness and appetites by people of all ages has made the Fête de la Musique in just a few years one of the major Cultural events of the year. It's location is the open air: streets, squares, gardens, and museums ... A amazing opportunity for the great musical institutions to leave their walls or to accommodate other musical genres. The Festival also offers the opportunity to create exchanges between the city and suburbs, to touch rural communities, to offer concerts in hospitals and prisons, and seamlessly and naturally promotes access to art and culture for all.

Availabe on all five continents
The Fête de la Musique began to be exported in 1985, on the occasion of the European Year of Music. An international celebration and social phenomenon, the Fête, which is celebrated today in more than 120 countries across five continents, every 21st June, is also an ambassador of new musical trends, as well reviving traditional music, exporting world music, hosting the appearance of rap, techno, and a return to a musical carnival ...
