Happy 89th anniversary to the Oscars in 2017
On 26th Feb the 89th Oscars will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and the best American and International films of the year will receive awards across multiple categories.
Famous celebrities to attend
The mythical ceremony will be hosted by the popular American comedian and presenter Jimmy Kimmel. Famous actors will take turns to give the prizes to the winners, including Leonardo DiCaprio (who will award the Oscar for the best actress), Brie Larson (to present the Oscar for the best actor), Mark Rylance (Oscar for the best actress in a supporting role) and Alicia Vikander (to present the Oscar of the best actor in a 2nd role). Marching down the red carpet also will be the glitterati and who's who in Hollyword and a multitude of international celebrities watched by public crowds eager to get a view of their favourite stars.
French films nominated
The French production or co-productions nominated are as follows;
- Ma vie de courgette / My life as a Courgette (Zucchini for US Audience) by Claude Barras: Nominated for Best Animation
- La tortue rouge / The red turtle by Michael Dudok: Nominated for Best Animation
- Je ne suis pas votre nègre / I am not your negro by Raoul Peck: Nominated for Best Documentary
- Fuocoammare, par-delà Lampedusa/ Fire at Sea by Gianfranco Rosi (a French / Italian co-production): Nominated for Best Documentary
- Ennemis intérieurs / Enemies Within by Sélim Azzazi: Nominated for best Live Action Short film
And the burning question on everyone's lips...after the Golden Globes 2017 (8th Jan) will Leonard di Caprio again present Isabelle Huppert with an award? The actress has been equally nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress for her role in Elle by Paul Verhoeven.

Oscar-winning Spanish director Pedro Almodovar has been named President of the judging panel for the 70th Cannes Film Festival in 2017 “For its 70th edition, the Festival de Cannes is delighted to welcome a unique and hugely popular artist. His works have already carved out an eternal niche in the history of film,” the festival said in a statement. The Festival de Cannes will take place from Wednesday 17th to Sunday 28th May 2017. The Official Selection and Members of the Jury will be announced in mid-April. Read more here
