Clinging to her camera, balancing on the back of a technician, the official poster of the 72nd edition of the Cannes Film Festival pays tribute to Agnès Varda.

The poster for the 72nd edition of the Cannes Film Festival, from 14th - 25th May 2019, was unveiled on Monday 15th April. The festival paid tribute to one of the pioneers of French cinema, the legendary Agnès Varda who died on March 29, 2019 at the age of 90.

The photo comes from the shooting of La Pointe Courte (1954), the first film by the New Wave filmmaker then aged 26. Using natural scenery and with few financial means, we discover a young director full of ambition perched on the back of a technician and clinging to her camera.

With 13 films in the official selection and the Camera d'or d'honneur in 2015, Agnès Varda has a great track record at Cannes. She was also a member of the jury twice, in 2005 and in 2013 where she chaired the Jury of the Camera d'Or.

The poster now unveiled, we eagerly await the announcement of the Official Selection of the Cannes Film Festival on Thursday 18th April
